ping

a great command to check if some host or remote computer is available or not

syntax

ping <IP address or domain name>   [-t  ] (optional)

-t  it will continously ping the IP till manually stopped. be pressing Ctrl + C

This command sends data packets to the host and waits for replies. If  there is a reply it means the host/IP is available on your network.

e.g ping 203.94.243.70 -t

it pings the 203.94.243.70 (i.e. MTNL Delhi's DNS server)

More commands will be added regularly. You are free to add more commands from your side
