Now a days every institution needs an automated interactive voice response system (IVRS) which is in fact a very good project idea. IVRS for  College inquiry automation allows the user to know the student's attendance and marks anytime through the telephone line without manual operator, just by using an automated response system based on  college database. Embedded system and computer hardware can be used. Say for example a 20 pin microcontroller 89C2051or AT89s52, avr etc can be used to switch the controls between other hardwares like computer and telephone. Telephone line or gsm based phone can be used for communication purpose. Visual Basic or any other language will solve our purpose for an adorable GUI and software programming.

Now we need to workout on how to alert computer when a user makes a call. This can be easily done by using uC to alert computer when the bell rings and transfer the control of the mic to the computer from telephone, and then after a welcome message IVRS will ask user to enter their request and as per the request user will get the apt response. This system will work exactly like the response you guys hear when you try to reach your frind when he/she is busy. Or when you try to add credit to your mobile prepaid account.

It is a nice idea to start with simple projects such as electronic magic door lock (using password).

There are various actuators or drivers that can be used to make the lock of the door, but if you've ever been to offices, they have proper magic door locking systems based on strong electromagnets and RFID based pass card coded with your info (password) .

Now the idea is as simple as to control the switching of electromagnets.

To start with use simple password checker instead of sophisticated RFID. The system can use simple array of (UID) username & password which the user can feed into micro-controller (using KEYPAD) and then authenticated user can pass the door. Its better to have an interactive system so use simple display devices such as LCD etc .

Electromagnets are available commercially.

Tajinder in which software are you writing your C code? Is it Keil C? Also do you have a programmer/burner to write hex files to µC? 

dude.. just make a ISP burner. It is parallel port based. Easy to make and use. Burn your hex files instantly

first of all you must specify about the software you are using for compiling the code... after compiling the program you will get a hex code file generated.. burn it on the controller using any burner/programmer with its relevent software... Please elaborate your query to make it more clear...

I guess you are new to electronics. That should have been one of the most basic stuff which you might have been taught. Anyways in simple terms, Zener Diode is something which stops a voltage to increase beyond a point when used in Reverse Bias

You can build your own robotic car and there is no programming required as such.

• First of all prepare a mechanical model of your car. Read our tutorial on making your first bOt.
• After that for building RF remote control follow this link. There is as such no programming involved but if you want to use a microcontroller you can do so. 

After reading the tutorial if you need help in interfacing microcontroller with RF module you can again post your query.

it wud be really interesting to see the circuit for glowing a fused tubelight.

Buy a cheap wireless toy car and use its remote. Connect its receiver module with a microcontroller and then place the whole circuit on your robot. If you are able to connect a microcontroller to its receiver module then your robotic car is ready!
