How to change the COM PORT in windows xp

I am using a virtual USB drive to access my programmer for serial communication with my 8051... I am using hyperterminal to access the port & it require that the virtual port should be COM PORT 1 but, I am unable to change the COM PORT ...
Plz help! Itz urgent!!

Please elaborate your query and the problem you are facing..
You are unable to set virtual port to COM1 because it must be already in use which is generally the case. Just try to assign a different COM port to the device which is already using it through Device Manager first and then your problem will be solved.
i guess botskool has given enough hint to solve your problem.
It is clear that the port of the virtual USb drive cannot be assigned a custom port unless it is free.
try this :
Go to device manager and look out for the device that is using port1 and try to allocate a different port (which should also be free).
Now select your Virtual usb from the device list and change its port to port1.
(recommended : reboot your system).
Re-open device manager and check everything is according to your settings i.e. your Virtual USB port is port 1.
Write back if you have any more issue.
